Alternative to nitrogen atmosphere cabinet for storage of parts| 12 November, 2021
Hi SMTnet. I have a series of sensitive parts and solder preforms which degrade when exposed to oxygen and moisture. It seems the standard way of protecting these components is to use a nitrogen purged cabinet as storage.
This seems to use a lot of nitrogen as there is normally a constant flow of nitrogen through this enclosure. If it has an oxygen sensor inside to regulate the flow then it becomes a rather expensive piece of equipment. Does anyone know of the normal equipment that I would need to nitrogen purge and seal ESD bags with components within? Also, would using a dessicant and oxygen scavanger/absorber tablets be a suitable alternative? Thanks!
