MoonMan rantings in SMT Express | 15 September, 1999

Good people, and bad or otherwise afflicted,

For those of you having enormous time avaialable to read my rantings in the SMT Express, please pardon the font situation. It ain't my fault, maybe, and Mike is not to blame. Something gets lost in translation between Microsuck Word and HTML. Any suggestions are appreciated as I can hardly stand to read my own stuff.

You know, Moonie...you can make a relatively recent version of Microsuck Word save into an html format for your reading pleasure.

Have you attempted this but to no avail?

A smart-aleck reply:

Go buy a copy of Linux Red hat.

Done. You'll throw everything else away.

Hi, MoonMan (aka LunarTick???? sorry, couldn't resist it!)

My smart Alec answer is use WordPerfect, a MUCH more advanced product than Microcrap's Word. I use it almost exclusively -- the only time I use Word is when I'm sent Word files for edition, and even then I convert to WP if it's going to be a big job. It crashes with WIN 98 50% fewer times than Word, as well.

However, more seriously, send Mike your good stuff in the form of a .DOC file attachment rather than an HTML one and I think you won't have the same problems (at least, it passes the buck if you do!).

As for Linux Red Hat, I'm waiting for a) drivers for my Matrox Marvel and SoundBlaster Live! b) Wine and c) more apps available before taking the plunge, although I've been seriously tempted. I've been beGatesed (even with NT) so many times that I would love to be able to ask him to take a long walk along a short pier. It is a pity he has us so much by the short and curlies.

Brian, thanks for that. You know I'm a really sensitive type guy, very naive, and beyond that - really don't give a damn, but wait til you see next month's guise for the MoonMan.

I didn't give up WP until about two years ago when I got a consultantcy working for someone absolutely demanding Word. Where woulda/coulda thata beeen. Redmond WA comes to mind. Anyway, since then, I've beeg stuck in the Gate Keeper's closet though I still use my WP 5.2 DOS version whenever possible along with Ventura Publisher when needed.

I am using Word DOC attachments and the results are as they appear on screen after HTML conversion by Mike. Don't know what's happening here, but it's driving me to another state - Budweiser.

I just installed my first Linux Red Hat stuff and am awaiting drivers for all my Matrox cards including my new G400 Max. Could be awhile due to sifting through all the stuff going on with the "FREE" OS - though the concept is tremendous.

Gates on a short pier? Good point and better than a pie in his face. Of course, if he were to give me, say, .10% of his fortune I would give high praise indeed, then I would promote very important stuff - me. | | Brian | Thanks,

MoonMan

On first reading, I thought you had put 10% and I thought, is he being greedy, or just simply greedy? Then I saw the tiny wee point and realised you really meant 0,10%. The two orders of magnitude difference do really make things look better. Personally, I'd be happy with another order less, then I could really retire and you would not have to put up with my nit-picking. How about it, Bill, to save MoonMan's soul?
