3rd party support for universal machines? | 5 October, 2022

I'm interested in finding someone who is a universal tech or has machines who I can chat to and pay for an hour or two of advice on Zoom or something like that. Looking for general how to use it well stuff. Does anyone know someone?

I'm trying to get validation working at the moment. I bought two genesis machines but have little to know idea what I'm doing, but currently have the machines mostly working fine.

Melbourne, Australia. I'm pretty sure there aren't any other universal machines here so I'm totally happy with Zoom / Skype etc video chat.

Basically for a little bit of training and technical support, how is PSV / barcodes meant to work, should I be using pattern for these input jacks or something else, few basic questions. The machine has a flip book of slot / track bar codes attached to it but there's no mention in the manual that I can find about how to use those...

The slot/Track barcodes are for marrying part numbers to the feeders. This is used for part validation for traceability. If this is turned on in your machine, I would select override in the feeder status screen. This is Usually unnecessary in my opinion, unless your facility requires full component traceability. All the scanning and marrying takes time.

For PCB traceability, Panel barcodes or individual serial number barcodes can be programmed in DPO. It is mostly just an x/y location on the PCB, and a search area. 2 windows need info... Tools>Barcode Definition - you can input the search window size. Default lighting works best for me. I name it "bc". Window>Barcode List- This is where you input the position on the panel or circuit 1, give it a ref designator "again I use bc", and select whether it is a panel or circuit barcode (Board vs Circuit). The type column is just selecting the lighting and search size defined in the prior step, if named "bc", you select "bc".

As for pattern part alignment, I have found it lacking in function compared to other machine types. If the part you wish to center is a bright cirlce, then use pattern. Define the circle size, center point of circle, height, feeder & nozzle. I have found it is better to instead pick certain features to key on for centering instead of Universal's sad excuse at pattern matching.

We paid Universal Instruments $500 to register one of our machines and that git us access to the manuals through their website. Contact Universal.

I've got access to all the manuals. Alas my 7 spindle head (flexjet 3 on a gx11s) detects collisions when picking even when no nozzle is in the spindles and they aren't near anything. My other machine is working well.
