Hanwha Samsung SM320 Failed to Start Mark5 SW - VME broken ? | 12 December, 2022

Hi All. I have SM320 and it gets broken.

After powering on machine, PC starts and during Mark5 initialize I get error: Error in DP Intialize communication - wait Sync Answer. R0[0x1140], R1[0x8145], MCANS[0x0]. After hitting OK, I got new error message: DPRAM Sync Error After hitting Ok I got new error message: Failed to initialize of MachineIF ! Then Mark5 is switched off and that's it.

I opened PC&VME rack, reseat all connectors, clean them, measure voltages.... Still same I'm getting FAIL (RED) LED on VME162PA 252SE board and RUN (GREEN) LED is OFF.

Is there any hero on planet earth who can help to determine what is issue ? It is VME board bad, or it still can be anything else ? Exist someone who can provide "VME-CPU SM320" EPROM DUMP from VME ?

BIG THANKS in advance for any help.

same happens with older series. clean connectors again, also clean slots. once(out of 100 times) i had this problem on my CP45 and it turned out to be corrupted data on HDD. so good luck, dont think out of box, think out of room.

Does yours have the removeable hard drive that unlocks with a key and the whole thing comes out? Try plugging the HDD directly in, and don't use the adapter part. It's kind of tricky, but I was told by the service techs that a bunch of those adapters were starting to not make good contact. Bypassing the adapter will eliminate it as the issue.

Hi Bukas. Thank you a lot for tip. I've tried Backup of Mark5 folder from the time when all worked. That did not solve this issue :(

Hi ProcEng1,

I have no clue what removable hard drive adapter you mean. I have 2.5" SSD hard drive connected directly to PC board by regular Sata cable.

Ok. My older machines have a hard drive in a socket that pulls out with a key.

It's a long shot but are there any CMOS batteries on board?

(long boring story involving Hanwa tray elevator display not working redacted)

Stephen, there is one CMOS battery on PC board. I haven't check it, but time and date on PC is correct, so I guess it should not be problem. On VME controller is another CR2032 battery (based on VME datasheet it is for some RAM memory). That battery measured 0.4V. I replaced it quickly with fresh one. But it doesn't help. And I hope+guess that drained battery should not permanently damage whole machine by loosing some data from RAM. Also I guess that battery was drained many years before. Machine runs normally about 4 days ago.

yeah that ok but, MARK5 or other MARK programs dont contain drivers for communication card, its called LANGO or something like that. if cleaning connectors and slots doesnt work try fresh install if you dont have HDD image. but first clean connectors and slot of lango card

Bukas, I loaded a disk image from the time when all worked to new hard drive. That doesn't help. I've removed PCI cards and PC and did a contact cleaning several times.

It is anyone here with SM320 EPROM dump from VME board ?

It is anyone here who knows if RUN LED on MVME162PA-252SE board should be instantly ON after machine power switch flip, or it is ON only after proper booting windows and MARK5 SW start?

Duro. I have the exact same problem on a CP45. Did you solve the problem? Thanks.

Hi Recard. I fixed it by replacing VME. With another VME (working) board I realized that correct LED light indication sequence of booting up (after power up machine) is green RUN LED together with red FAIL LED. And FAIL LED goes off once software boots up.

I also read manual from motorola about VME. I have connected PC to it via console port (serial port) and I was able to run many test using hyperterminal, read memories etc. There was no issues at all. When I got new VME I dump EPROM from working one and compare with my old one. they are 100% identical. As all test of VME passes I think problem with my VME board is something on the BUS, maybe some bus driver or whatever.

Hi Duro. The problem is that my VME card and ISA card was tested in another machine and both are working. So I suspect the CAN boards or Motherboard.

Hi guys. Maybe it helps someone. We solved almost all issues on our machine with changing the capacitors arround the processor on our motherboard. We first suspect the Power supply and decided to use two power supplies, one for the MB and the other one for the card computer. That helped a little bit. After changing the capacitors on the motherboard, everything went well.
