Wave Soldering With BGA's | 8 September, 1999

Has anybody have any experience with Top placement of BGA's. GLue descretes on bottom and then wavesolder.?

This is a common practice. Just remember that BGA solder joints are especially susceptible to secondary reflow damage. I suggest you take ALL the usual precautions to avoid it if you wave solder boards with BGAs. If you have access, there were good papers on the topic in the proceedings for Nepcon in 1994 and SMI in 1995.

Earl, apply the mask to where?? TO hold the BGA in place? THis is a NO clean process so i would use PC Flex Mask or simular.

My problem is that I have 3 100 pin through hole connectors to solder. And to selective solder I have descretes very close to the through hold connectors. ( I know a bad design but we are contract manufactures and we have to live with it!)
