One expense reduction is to order parts from SMTXTRA. I am not affiliated at all with them; however, I buy from them as much as possible. Usually 30-40% price difference from Panasonic. Example is the waste bins for Panasonic NPM's-$183.49, Last time I bought those from SMTXTRA they were $120.00. Authentic Panasonic parts as well.

Not talking about SMT Xtra. They are good to go. Highly recommend them. Posting a thread and saying expense reduction for SMT line is like saying "idea for spending less on groceries" There are about 400 billion facets to it. Then the aftermarket guys swoop in and start fishing. Read the entire thread.. and yes I'm cynical about that. To add something that actually has meaning, there are many many things that can be done to reduce expense on an SMT line. Examples to get you thinking : 1. Do a spaghetti diagram on operator movement. 2. Set up back up feeders to reduce reel replenish time. 3. Do family set ups to reduce changeover time. 4. Cover the machines during breaks and lunches to reduce downtime.

Etc etc etc.....

The single most common problem I have seen is not always having ready to run error free kits for SMT waiting at all times. It eats into SMT production a lot more than most people think when there is even a single question about a part.

At one OEM we did switchovers in twenty minutes or so. And with 3 or 4 job changes a shift that adds up fast. But even if you change over every few days, inventory issues can add up to a lot more than people realize.

I know for a fact they are solid as we and some peer companies are suppliers of them for machine parts, feeders; nozzles, and calibration Jigs, even though our major business is with mounters and ovens, but no business is too small eh?
