ERSAsoft default user/password, or a manual?

ERSAsoft default user/password, or a manual? | 9 May, 2023

I realize this request is an incredible longshot, but...

Anybody happen to know the initial default username and password for ERSAsoft 2.1?

We have a hard-working antique Hotflow 3, and decided to try setting up ERSAsoft for it. Comes on two floppies from the 90's. Required quite the ordeal to set up a Windows 95 environment for it. But it did install, and does run (that is, the software runs, but connecting to the Hotflow requires some config). But we're defeated by every configuration operation requesting a username and password. Sigh.

We do have a manual for the machine. But the chapter on ERSAsoft is missing (or intended to refer to another document).

So, any grey-beards out there who happen to remember this nugget of info?

Have you tried to use: selektiv for user and password. Both Ersa machines we have came with that.

@bobpan

Thanks for your reply. We did not previously know about "selektiv". It seems an odd choice of word. Translated from German to English, apparently it means "selectively".

I have now tried that for both user and password, and, unfortunately, it does not do the job. ... and as an afterthought, I tried reinstalling ERSAsoft with German version selected, on the basis that perhaps the default user/password might depend on language. Sadly, still not successful.

UPDATE:

By some miracle, a paper manual has been found for the ERSAsoft 2.1 software.

Turns out that the default user and password are "System".

So in addition to that gem, I guess an additional contribution of this thread is that despite the manual specifying Windows 3.1 as the OS, the software appears to run on Win 95 in a VirtualBox VM. (Though getting Win95 itself to work in a VM is its own ordeal, and UI responsiveness is poor due to lack of "Guest tools".)

We have not tried the serial communications at this point. We would probably attempt to get a period-correct-ish PC to run this on, for simplified COM setup (relative to VM), and better UI response.

But at least this show-stopping credentials obstacle has been overcome.
