trailer tape length

trailer tape length | 3 June, 1999

Has anyone had a problem with the trailer tape length being too short and causing placement machine to stop for parts exhaust (SMT parts)? I realize the EIA spec. is set for this length but would like to know what issues you have had. Thanks

Deon response:

Hi DWR,

Have had that problem before. My solution was to purchase a tape splicer which enabled operators to join the old exhausted and new part reels without down time. Tape splicer is available through Top-Line. Hope this helps.

However, impossible for moveing table feeder machines (high speed). If feeder down time is an issue consider: 1. alternate pickup location 2. pre-load all heavy users. swap out when necessary

Generally, a feeder change should take less than 30 seconds. In my shop I have demonstrated feeder swap out techniques which take 10 seconds. Incidentally some machines have part counters and pre-warn sensors. Great if you got-em! Sorry if ya' don't.

Prepare for it.
