FUJI PD naming convention Any idea?

Okay, I would like to hear everyones ideas for PD naming conventions for FUJI. We are trying to use your basic names "3216_CAP" to a "MQFP208AD" But it is way out of control. Different part sizes, and vendors make it very tough to keep it all the same over several SMT lines. I would like to know if any one out there uses the part number as the PD, (like Univeral) Any ideas, thoughts or comments on this topic would be greately appreciated. Thanks Larry J

It only tells you how big in the part is in the X and Y axis. It totally ignores the Z axis. You eventually end up dropping parts because your PD is for a 1.0 mm part and your placing 0.3 mm caps or you smash your nozzle unnecessarily! I use "120610" 1206 package, (1.0 mm tall) or 120603 (1206 package, 0.3 mm tall). Simple but effective for chips...no solution yet for complex PD's for parts with elements. Enjoy, Dean

Unfortunetly I have not been able to pull everybody away from the stone ages when you did not have the selection of suppliers and they did not have so many different processes to choose from.I think that using the part # for the PD name would most likely create a multitude of PD's to keep track of.I do not think this is a problem because I also think that the New found PD's would take care of themselves. Keep trying!!!

we came up with a naming convension that is pretty good. it's based on both component type and size. 3216's are rectangualr chips that r normaly say .6mm high so it would be called RE3216060 RE for rectangle 3216 comp size 06 is the hight 0 is the direction of the PD description for how it is picked from the tape a 14 Pin SOIC's would be SO1410040 it's a 14pin soic 10mm long 4 mill wide and direction 0

QFP's would need only 1 side describes since they r square QFP144100 QFp type 144 pins and direction 0

when u get into variation's of the PD eg paper / plastic u can add suffixes A,B,C etc...it's apretty good system
