Alternatives to device bake out

Alternatives to device bake out | 19 February, 1999

Does anybody have any reliable alternatives to device bake out for plastic bodied components. We do not use a whole package at time and therefore have to oven bake the balance before we can use them. I have come accross dry nitrogen storage chambers from my past life with thick film hybrids, but how can you tell if the product is still "dry" Has anybody any experience of vacuum bake out in order to shorten the bake out time

Alternatives to baking plastic components, after using part of package are:

1 Dessicant cabinets, that you mentioned. A month or so ago, someone on SMTnet spoke of ECOing refrigerators to be dry boxes. 2 Sealing components in heat sealable bag. Buy big bags and seal along the opening, so that you can keep resealing the same bag.

Many sealed component packs have humidity indicator cards. I can't find a contact for a supplier, at the moment. I'll try to get it you.

I know what you're saying ... These cards are generally 5%. And they're reuseable. TTYL Dave F

We have just completed some scientific work on the subject of component bake-out and alternative methods of getting the job done quickly. If you would like a copy, email me at sleech@ix.netcom.com
