Fuji MCS/2 vs. F4G | 4 February, 1999

Any thoughts from FUJI users on the likes and dislikes (pros and cons) of MCS vs. F4G , and vice versa?

Likewise, are there any "FujiCAM" users out there who would like to comment as well?

Thanks.

| Any thoughts from FUJI users on the likes and dislikes (pros and cons) of MCS vs. F4G , and vice versa? | | Likewise, are there any "FujiCAM" users out there who would like to comment as well? | | Thanks. | We have had some experience with both mcs and f4g, pros and cons to both. The main 2 items for this decision have to be: 1. MCS requires a expensive dedicated terminal. All your data resides on there, if it crashes; well... have fun. 2. Can you afford F4G? Not much better than mcs but it works on a standard computer and can be backed up easily.

I have no experience with fujicam but have heard it has it's problems. I hope they are working out the bugs. It has to have many as this is about a 4th layer product. (os9,msc,f4g?,fujicam)??????

We have switched to Pansonic, other issues with that... but more flexible. Better support!

"Is anybody out there?"

Re: Fuji MCS/2 vs. F4G | 10 February, 1999

We use both F4G and MCS at the present and we are phasing out MCS. One main reason is that it's platform is not Y2K compliant. F4G is cumbersome and taxes a high overhead on your computer system. We have also found a bug recently when we have high slot count programs: some of the feeders would go missing after the separation program. Does anyone have a solution for that?

The MCS's ( we still have 1 or 2 MCS 16 - Program and go for launch !) these can be networked using IP addresses and some facny software, we have some in house stuff that let's us program off line and hold everything on a PC server abit like what F4G is trying to do but our's seem's to work, CimCis has a system that link's them up and talk's to F4G. I thought that MCS30's were Y2k compliant but not the 16's.. probably worth double checking | The F4G work's using relational databases so if you like using MS Access and stuff like that you would probably like the layout but it does need effort. It work's OK but is a major change in programming and the reporting could be improved. The rumour mill say's that Fuji are going to pull F4G anyway..answers on a postcard please...

As for Fujicam, there have been some evaluation's of it going on, it's not looking too good. The optimising of the program's is non too clever in many of the test's it slowed the line or showed no improvments, so again some work is probably needed.
