wave soldering surface mount tantalum and ceramic capacitors | 4 February, 1999

Can anyone help me with the pros and cons of trying to wave solder tantalum and large (1812) ceramic capacitors. I do know that one may see fractures on larger cermaic caps, but have not seen much on the tantalums. Any insight as to what problems I could see would be helpfull. Thanks in advance.

You need to watch the footprint's ( lands) you use and the arrangements of them. Depending on the fluxing process you use you can end up with these large component's shadowing the pad's and not getting hit with enough flux ..
