contamination on feedthru wires

contamination on feedthru wires | 13 November, 2000

I am having a problem with wetting on some feedthru wires. The problem seems to be contamination on the wires, due to the fact that the problem seems to be wire lot dependent. I have analysed it using SEM and come up with very little. Is there another good method of analysing for contamination.

Not too much to go on, bud.

Tell us about: * Wire material, finish, insultation, etc * Wetting problem description * Why feed that the wire is used for through is important * Range and extent of the problem * Results of metallographic analysis of "good" and "bad" lots * Process of pulling the wire and preping it for solder * Description of the other end [from the wire] of the soldered connection

Fourier Transform Infrared [FTIR] microscopy is often used for bulk composition, surface contamination, and inclusion analysis.
