PCB Stiffeners

PCB Stiffeners | 2 November, 1998

We run stiffeners on all of our product through our wave solder process and most of our product through our reflow and adhesive cure oven. The problem is we continually put on and take off stiffeners because of poor reliability of stiffeners staying on boards during machine placement. We use a titanium stiffener and have also tried fiberglass stiffeners with no luck. Has anyone out there found anything better? Or at least a company I can check out? I appreciate your help!

Have you tried stiffeneres machined out of Delmat or Durostone? That's the material used for wave solder pallets, and it's got good dimensional stability.

You can get them from EMC at (215) 340-0650.

Kelly, How are you cleaning the stiffeners? The Smart Sonic cleaning process has been very successful in such applications. Visit the Smart Sonic Web Site at: www.smartsonic.com Or call me at 1(800) 806-440-R. Regards, Bill

I have used Delmat for similar such applications with great success. We purchase our stiffeners from MB Manufacturing. I'm not sure where they're out of, but you should be able to look them up in the Thomas Register.

Good luck
