Thanks for your reply! I do appreciate your response. I received some information from the company that sells Accuspec, but I hadn't heard from any users yet. Your sales pitch sounds on your unit sounds tempting, but I'll have to pass on your Accuspec ... Thanks again, Mike Demos. | | I am attempting to locate a kit to be used on surface mount equipment to determine the placement capability (CPk). Does anyone have information on where to purchase such a kit? Ideally this kit should be usable on placement equipment from various suppliers. | | Thanks! | | Mike Demos | | mdemos@oconee.rms.slb.com | We purchased an Accuspec kit for measurement of our SiPlace Equipment. It took several months to get delivery on it. When we received it, the glass slugs were chipped and broken, because they were improperly packaged. We asked for replacements. We were told the three broken ones would be replaced with newer models with better etching. We resspectfully requested that ALL FOUR be replaced with the same type of etching. We were called on a daily basis by the company to return the broken originals. We returned them when we received our replacements. The replacemnts arrived smudged full of fingerprints, with several scratches, even though the manufacturer swears they were brand new. | So, we cleaned them up and got the problem with the glass slugs straightened out. Then we tried to program our machines. The CAD data offered in the user's manual was wrong. We notified the manufacturer. They graciously offered to give us a FREE updated manual with the correct data for pointing out the fact that 6+6+2 does not equal 12. We were very impressed. | Our machine shop made special feeder trays for the components, and when we tried to run them, our vision system couldn't see them. Our best machine technician could not get them to pass vision. So we called the company again. At this point, I'd had enough with the whole Accuspec debacle, so I foisted it on my co-op student. He got nowhere in his efforts and spent the rest of the summer profiling boards. | About six months later, I got a call from Accuspec saying that they had improved the slugs again, and thought that they would pass the SiPlace vision system, an we could try them for free if we would like. | Obviously, I didn't return the call. Before we purchased the kit we got the hard sell, i.e., multiple phone calls per week, salesmen having us paged off the shop floor or out of meetings to answer sales calls, spam faxes, the whole nine yards. After the sale, I felt like we were the guinea pigs proving out this product. A year and a half has passed, and we still haven't gotten the darn thing working. A good part of that is my fault; I gave up after several months of fruitless attempts. | So, would you like an Accuspec kit? I'll sell you mine REAL cheap. | Another source for glass slugs is the machine manuacturers themselves (Fuji, Universal, etc) or Applied Image, Inc. out of Rochester, NY. (716) 482-0300. This is not an endorsement or free advertising; I got a set from them in '93 and I don't even know it they're still around. Just listing a possible source.
