| Where can I find a good tool to splice 8mm and 12mm paper and plastic part carrier tapes together? Siemens has a pretty good splice tool, which crimps a small brass strip into the tape. The cover tape has to be sticked together with a small strip of adhesive tape. Another German company promotes splices for 8 mm tape without requiring a tool. These splices have pre-formed notches for the 4 mm pitch. Once the two pieces of tape are aligned, the splice is is folded over the edge and pressed together. Company name is TESA / Steier. I use neither one of them and made myself a small jig, cut the tape ends through the perforation holes and hold the tape in place while sticking the cover tape together with some pre-cut 5 mm and 8 mm wide tape.
