ESD Wrist Strap Constant Monitors

ESD Wrist Strap Constant Monitors | 22 May, 1998

This might be a little far afield, but I'm not getting help from the compliance/EOS/ESD people. Currently we check our wrist straps at the beginning of the day and after each break. It's necessary, but it sure burns-up alot of time. So we want to consider constant wrist monitors. Two questions are: 1. What are your experiences with constant wrist strap monitors? 2. Constant wrist strap monitors are ridiculously expensive. No they're value priced!!! Does anyone have a layout/BOM to build their own monitors? Dave F

You said it 'bout them things being expensive!! I found a web site that has some instructions of how to build a charge detector that's really sensitive...you can change the sensitivity by adding capacitors to it from what I read. Anyways, this is a start and if I find anything else I'll post it here on the page. If you find out anything you post it too, okay? I'd like to build my own too if I can find out how to do do it... -Steve Gregory-

I've posted the question on "We-Man" also. Dave F http://margo.student.utwente.nl/el/

It seems quite elaborate, but the idea of using operator impedance to ground to tune a Wien Bridge Oscillator is on track. Dave F http://www.pins.co.uk/afg/wristmon.htm
