Posting technical articles | 21 May, 1998

Cunli, We applaude you for your fine efforts and providing us all a place to lodge our intelectual information. Some of us were talking and wondered if you might help us with a place to park some of our past technical (non commercial) articles as a way of answereing some questions constantly asked and as a way of creating more interest and controversy on the forum. You know, liven things up more than they are (they get pretty lively now). Just a thought from some loyal participants. Earl Moon

I like this site so much I would really enjoy the expansion Earl discussed. And I'd be happy to post information. Chrys

Earl, Chrys, and All, Thank you for your continued participation in the Forum and suggestions. The Technical Library was designed to do just what you suggested. For now you have to send the articles to us first. We will convert them to HTML pages and post to the site. To speed up the process, material needs to be in digital form already. The Library has been there for years and many have visited. However, few have contributed to it as they have to the Forum. Can you tell us why? In the near future we hope you will be able to post to the Library directly, which may encourage more participation there. A couple more questions I meant to ask you: 1. What about a Contributors Corner on the Forum, with as much information about yourselves as you are willing to post? Several of you have expressed interest in knowing more about others. 2. Would you like to vote for the most helpful people and or messages on a monthly basis? We would really like to recognize the many of you who contribute so much and so often. Thanks, Cunli

The most important is what you suggested' concerning posting technical information directly. Most of us are only concerned about sharing information. If something falls out of that - so be it. Recognition is nice, but information (especially that not previously made available) lights fires and/or sparks controversy that is worked out among the talented folks on your fine forum. In other words, anything is fine. We simply would like to get more information to more people so more ideas are sharred. Thanks again Cunli, Earl Moon

Re: Posting technical articles | 22 May, 1998

| When you say "digital form" do you mean digitized like a jpeg format or a big ol' pile of electrons like a *.doc format? Anything that is already on disk will be fine. It will be ideal if the whole article is already in .cfm with reasonably small(memory, not dimension) pictures if there are any.

For text only files, Word, WordPerfect, and .txt formats are fine. Graphic images can come in .gif, .jpeg, .tiff, etc. We prefer submitting via e-mail attachment but you can certainly mail in a disk. PC disks are prefered. I forgot to mention yesterday that there is a charge of $50 for posting a non-commercial article in order to cover the production cost ($200 for commercial content). If an non-commercial article is already in .cfm form, we will waive the charge. Would the charge have been the major reason we have not had much participation? Thanks a lot. Cunli
