Re: Quick Frame and Dek 265GS

Does anyone use the "Quick Frame" with their Dek printer? The threads on the screws keep stripping, so we thought maybe we'd send our frames to a machine shop for heftier screws. Has anyone done this? Is there a better way? Isn't it weird how Alpha keeps trying to push the Tetra frame? The demo we saw was rusted and I heard they're desperate to get rid of some overstock. The so-called Tetra frame is kinda neat, but I have to wonder.

We have had really good luck with the IIT version. We use it with a DEK265 also. I am having trouble coming up with a brochure but their email address is iit@ns.net. We have ordered probably 10 to 15 stencils for use on prototype builds. We have had no problem with screws stripping and have had good quality results and quickturn time. Email them for details.

The quick frame does work well with the DEK 265, but we feel that tensioning is user dependent and introduces variation into the process on an operator to operator basis. Also, because tensioning occurs only on two sides (instead of four) this also introduces variation because of the lack of tensioning on the open sides. Additionally, you have to use the front edge adapter which is another source of variation (and frustration). The Tetra frame works extremely well and it addresses all of the variablility issues that I have already mentioned; on the downside, if your storage and training processes are not well defined for your operators, the "fingers tend to get damaged from mis-handling and operators installing the stencils improperly.

Have you tried the new Accu-Frame from PNC? It tensions on all four sides using an operator-INdependent mechanical scheme. It seems pretty slick. They're failry new, and don't have a frame for the MPM's last time I checked, so I haven't tried it myself yet. The last time I checked, they'd give you a frame for free if you bought their laser cut stencils. I don't know their web address, but if you email me, I'll send you the name of the guy to contact up there if you want to try it. Chrys

They claim they will send as many as you need. I have MPM's as well...Havent received bad news from them tho'. Stencils are really competitively priced as well. About $200 for laser cut. What type of screw are you using? Because I have the problem, too. I am in the process of changing the screw every month. In all seriousness, The quick frame uses 4 different screw. The operation of mounting to the frame does not need to be man-handle, which mean tight it wrist tight, that would be enough. Watch your operators and train them. Change it one more time and set the operator right.

Before risking screwing up the alignment of the frame, and upon the advice of several SMTNET users, I decided to see if I could get away W. just changing the screws. I found screws with 2x the pull strength as Alpha's. But they didn't fit!! The Alpha screws have a 3/16" thread, but the shaft just above is 1/8". The frame wouldn't accept the new screws until I ground them to the Alpha Spec. Now it works just fine.
