Let's assume that SMT or MEMS or COB etc, is a new things and about to be introduced to the line, nobody knows about this new process and I was asked to select the critical proceses and parameter, how and where should I start?

Thanks and best regard.

Your first inclination is correct. You should start by asking your friends and colleagues on SMTnet: * What is that SMT or MEMS or COB etc.? * What are the considerations when processing a SMT or MEMS or COB etc.?

Were one smart crew that wont steer you wrong, at least not intentionally, well most of the time. At least we were one stake in the ground.

Other sources of stakes are: * Component [ie, SMT, MEMS, COB, etc.] supplier. * Process equipment technical support. * Process materials [ie, solder, paste, adhesive, etc.] technical support. * Technical helpline folk at EMPF http://www.empf.org * Archives of trade magazines [ie, SMT, Circuits Assembly, EP&P, etc.] * SMTA Knowledgebase http://www.smta.org. * Process consultants like: E Moon, W Engelmaier, L Hymes, etc. A list of these types is at http://www.ipc.org. * Fine SMTnet Archives
