Stencil Printer for Lead Free Solder | 25 September, 2000

Dear Friends,

I am handling a new project, and search for a solder paste stencil printer (automatic or semi-automatic) for lead free solder paste. The one I had looked for is MPM3000 series, however, what I heard from other freinds, those model is a little bit expensive, and sometimes the performance is not stable.... Do you have any idea for a stable and "cheap" printer?

Btw, we will use a Japanese three-component solder paste, which of viscosity close to no-clean paste.

I would have to ask the same question as Wolfgang, we use DEK's (249, 255, & 265) for whatever paste happens to required for a particular PCB, with no unique trouble.

I have to agree with Wolfgang & Jacko.

Two months ago, I decide to run a lead free paste trial. The paste was supplied by company "X", and they stayed on site to witness evaluation.

I trialled the paste using EXACTLY THE SAME equipment, stencil and also (maybe just lucky) the same PROFILE !!!. The results were very good and comparable to leaded.

So, get hold of a supplier who is willing to donate his paste and time and run a trial.

DO NOT SPEND on new kit. Maybe your process may need tweaking, but what the hell, that happens when you get a new product to play with.

I could be wrong/cynical etc but from what I have trialled.........nothing needs to change (yet).
