Does anyone know how the Fuji IP2 can be adapted to place BGA's?

The MTU places the chip on a carrier with suction in the center and it will not hold on to the BGA due to the lack of a flat surface on the bottom.

I have had limited success building a barrier on the carrier so the chips do not slide but this is not a very good method.

We do not use BGA's in production at this time but would like to.

Any help would be appreciated....

Some times all you really need is a lizard tongue. No machine is complete without one.

It will place BGA's, but you will be centering by using the part outline. The IP2 cannot be adapted to do individual ball inspection.(You may already know this)

As far as getting the part to stay on the part shuttle, I am sure that there is something you can adapt for that issue. I have never heard of a Lizard tongue, but it definately sounds interesting. :/

I did the search for "lizard" and found a few references but..... WHAT IS IT?

I will look into getting some dummy tape and reel BGA's. I just took over this dept. and I am still trying to get an inventory of what size and type feeders we have. It doesn't help that I am also my only employee at this time (biz is slow).

If I could get some more specific info on the lizard I will look into that as well.

Thanks for the support. I'm sure I'll have lots more questions in the future.....

The Lizard Tongue is just a thin metal strip that, when actuated, slides over the BGA component and holds it down during transport. If you contact FUJI, they should be able to give you a part number, and install instructions..... maybe even the real name, although I have never heard it refered to by anyone in any other way. Tape and Reel is the way to go, it's just not always possible without an extra expense.

I just go off the phone w/ Fuji and they seem to think that the lizard tounge (used another name, same idea) is only available for the IP3. They had a few other suggestions for adapting the IP2 like a rubber pad for the carrier or building "rails" to be fitted on the carrier. Could the lizard tounge for the IP3 be fitted to the IP2?

What are the odds that you could send me a pic of the reptile?

BGA Clamp...... Sounds to technical to me! Not sure about what is needed for installing on IP2, although I am pretty sure it can be done. I have no pic to give. Stop working with FUJI about 5 years ago.

Hi all bga placcement on an ip2 can is possible although as pointed out the x/y dimensionsof the part are used for placement I would suggest you arrange for your parts to be taped and reeled as this is the prefered way to go what size are the bga,s what is the matrix like

do you have x-ray equipment for checking bga's

I am experimenting with 2 types, FG256 17x17mm and FG456 23x23mm both with a 1mm pitch and .5mm ball. They both have a full array. As for as the x-ray, we are looking into pruchasing some used equipment but will mostly send them out for testing until we use them more in regular production. Anyone have any tips about special considerations for placement as far as stenciling, paste types, reflow and the like? I'm sure there is a web site with this info if someone could send me a link....
