SMT Assembly over Flexible PCB | 6 December, 2002

Printing: use rigid carrier plate to hold and support your flexible PCB. tooling holes in PCB to position on the plate, two-sided tape to hold PCB in place.

Oven: same carrier plate, use capton tape or clamps to hold PCB in place.

I believe some industries use a composite material for the carrier plate that is light and machinable. It will stand the heat repeatedly.
