Does anyone who has used inline and/or benchtop vision inspection systems have recommendations on which type to buy and which manufacturer does it best?

Terry,

I use a VItechnology AOI and I'm very happy with it. I find the software to be very flexible. You will realize how much components vary from one manufacturer to another, so flexibility is important.

The Omron machines are good at solder inspection. Not sure about CyberOptics.

Check out YesTech. Price is great. We are very happy with ours. Stay away from Agilent unless you have a lot of money and time.

Dave, Good to hear about VITechnology. Youre right about flexibility to deal with component variation. We have had problems with different batches causing rejects. When you say Omron for solder, do you mean solder paste or reflowed solder joints ? Dav, did you do a study or evaluation on the different vendors ? Thanks Terry

YesTech is a new company - how are they on support ? I do agree that their machines are inexpensive. Couldnt agree more with your remarks on Agilent. Thanks!

YesTech is new but its the CRTechnology guys and they hired some other Photon guys. So my personal opinion is they know the software end of it with no investment in it and the hardware platform looks good to me but they do outsource it. So they have a huge cost advantage over the big guys. The support has been great so far but they are new and time will tell. I have had the machine for about 4 months and compared with a SJ-10 its a dream. I can sell you an SJ-10 pretty cheap though if your interested.

We use a MIRTEC high res bench top system and are real happy with the performace. We have used it for both pre-reflow Mainly checking parts and part numbers) and post reflow for everything including solder joints. Easy to program and as you do more the library epands, making new programing even faster. Just as an example, a 4 up panel took a human 20 minutes to check for correct part numbers and solder joints. AOI took 38 seconds.
