Has anyone recently compared Assembleon/Samsung/Mydata/Universal equipment for very high mix - low volume applications? We are currently evaluating these vendors and would like to hear from others who have had to make the same kind of decision. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Assembleon machines are extrememly flexible and adaptable. Their service / tech support is outstanding. I consider them a leader in our industry.

My shop is low/mid volume high mix. I have kits of 1 to 10,000. 0201 to 56mm^2.

We evaluated 3 of the top manuf. and assembleon gave us the best bang for the buck. We are a high mix low volume manuf. Their field service group is excellant and very knowledgable. They have alot of new options on their X-II series. The placement and machine performance is excellant.

I dont know, what you are going to do with this type of request. Are you indeed making up your mind because a few readers give their hands up or down? All the machines listed above do a good job. However, consider that you will be married for a long time with the vendor of your choice. You kind off have to fall in love with your vendor or your marriage will not last. Are you married yourself and found your love due to other peoples recommendations?

I do assume in your selection process, you traveled to the closest application lab of the named vendors and had:

Demonstrated machine capability to stated Sigma specification. Demonstrated machine change over time from two of your own sample boards. Provided data for cost of placement per component or year. Provided information for service capability. (24 hours, 7 days a week). Provided customer information about machine up and down time.

If all vendors met your expectations, then it comes down to your personal choice, or more to what your machine operators like and dislike. Ask for a demo software and find out how long it will take your stuff to program a board. Ask for a demo feeder and find out how long it will take your operators to change a reel.

If, after all, you find it too difficult to decide, I would research, which machine brands your closest OEMs or competition in your neighborhood is using.

Larry,

For what it is worth, we were in the same boat last year, and we went with MyData. The service and support have been phenominal thus far. The machine is accurate and easy to changeover and teach new boards. The biggest negative we found is feeder costs. Good Luck

You get this info from the sales people. However, here is a simple formula. Your machine places actual 10,000 comp. an hour and you do this 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. Take some weeks off and calculate with 50 weeks, then your machine does 17,500,000 placements a year. Machine cost $ 200,000, written off in 4 years or divided by 70 Mio. = 0,002857 Cents per placement.

Larry,

We are a Electronics Contract Mfgr and recently installed a new production line consisting of Samsung CP60 and CP45 SMT equipment. Both pieces of equipment have worked out excellent for our high mix / low volume production. Samsung equip has been maintenance free, repeatable quality, easy to set-up and program. Equipment and Customer Support have been EXCELLENT for us. View dist.link: http://www.dynatechsmt.com
