I have an old De Haart printer that has a problem. It will not reset either the z axis or the squeegee. The z axis just gyrates, and I think it's trying to get to the zero position, which is all the way down, but it's already down. Is there a De Haart expert out there who can give me some pointers? thanks

Thanks for your response. This is a DeHaart MPC-29. It has manual vision, no conveyor. When I bought it, only one camera was working. I fixed that, but while I was jacking with that, the electronic pressure regulator (spcjr) burned up without warning. I have obtained a new one and installed it. Prior to the burn up, both the z-axis and the squeegee drive (both controlled by servo motors) worked properly. Now they won't even reset on boot up. The z-axis just gyrates back and forth, and the squeegee does nothing. The motion controllers appear to be good. The one for the z-axis does get a green light, but the one for the squeegee gives a fault. I swapped them out, and the green light follows the z-axis. Upon boot up, it appears to go through the home positioning sequence, but doesn't. I can't get either to move manually, I suppose because they haven't registered home position yet. It's possible I did not calibrate the electronic pressure regulator right, but how can that have anything to do with this problem? Thanks for any advice you can give. Blessings, Patrick

New update: By playing around with some settings in the software, we've been able to get the z-axis to work. This makes me think that if we reload the software, the problem may be fixed. Got any ideas as to where I can get a copy of the MPC-29 software? Thanks, Patrick

Hi Patrick, I can easily troubleshoot ML, EL and SL 20 systems by phone or e-mail, but the MPC-29 is a bit more complex. The problem that you are describing was failry common, and there were a number of potential causes. First is to check if the drive screws have bound up, or if the belts have jumped a tooth in the gear. Loosen the gears on the servo motor and see if you can move the belt assemblies by hand. If not, it is a mechanical problem, and the multipl edrive screws have to be levelled with each other. If you can move the belt drives easily, then check the limit switches. There are roller ball limit switch the system uses to activate it's home. If the switch is not working, or if the drive is sitting on the switch when it tries to home, you may get that problem. If that is not it, then you have a problem with the electronics. I cannot troubleshoot those types of problems.

There is a company called Lake Madsen Inc that has access to the old prints, schematics and many of the old deHaart employees. The company was started by the dehaart machine shop supervisor when he found himself out of a job when the deHaart was shut down. He bought the parts, etc. at auction. His number is 781-270-5274. He also knows how to reach the electrical and software engineers that developed that system. Good luck, Jon
