I have been actioned with introducing a new fault data collection system within our Business. We are a high mix, low volume, pca contract electronic manufacturer. Currently our manual inspection stations fill out hard copies of QUAD sheets listing all the faults, SMT, manual insterted, solder faults, polarity etc. This is then, transfered again manualy into a database for analysis. I am thinking of either the hand held terminals or touch screen stations but have no knowledge of good and bads. Has anyone had any experience of these or any other methods of this type of data collection. Appreciate any help / guidance

Its a shame no one has input on this. We are in the same spot as you.

We have been looking at Filemaker to create our own system.

Check out Technomatix Unicam quality system. Uses bar code and computer terminal.

Hi,

Try using or creating a simple data collection system using MS Access...Try this idea: operator inspects the board, then scans the PCB barcode. Then enters the fault found using the codes you are using in your sheet. It's a bit laborious but it is cheap. Try exploring the idea...i've seen companies using Access to monitor their process but the only problem I noticed is that they are not real time. But maybe if you are good enough in using Access and Visual Basic you could come up with a better system.

Aegis software offers an MES system that offers both automated and manual data collection points. All of the data collected is automatically deposited in one central database. This database is then used for generating all of the SPC reports for analysis. Because this system is web based you are able to use hand held terminals/touch screens as you mentioned above, not to mention the data you collect from your SMT and other process equipment is included in your reports.
