Hi,

We are thinking about starting to use via in Pad, for both BGA and 0402 and 0201 components.

Does anyone know how this would effect production. Obviously PCB production is not difficult, but this should only effect production and assembly.

Regards,

Grant

Via in pad is an engineer's dream and a production nightmare. Search the SMTnet Archives.

Wow, it's amazing what you can achieve with smoke & mirrors!

Only joking. Does the original via hole covering solder get put on at the PCB fabrication plant, or by the customer? & Does the entire board get reflowed or do you have a process where hot air is directed over the relevant areas?

Cheers,

Rob.

???

If you are referring to the SIPAD VIP, it is all done as a service after the bare boards are built and before they are delivered to the assembler. The whole board is reflowed during the application.

Send me some contact info and I will call you to elaborate.

If its lead free solder, no where! It's right where you left it.
