What these stands for: 0603 and 0402 component package, is there any standard or chart to know what these numbers referred to/corresponding sizes?Please include other packages and paste complete chart/table with reference standard.

These refer to the size of the component in imperial measurement. As for the table, search google.

So,1005/0402 and 1608/0603 are same components except last numbers are in inches. For 0402: L=.04"*25.4=1.016mm: W=.02"*25.4=0.5mm which was for component 1005 as per JIA. Am I correct?

You are correct, the one that will get you is the 0201 (inch) is called an 0603 (mm) I would sure like to know why they didn't call these 0503.

Have you seen this mix up as well? 01005-inch (some people are simply saying 1005) components in metric are 0402-mm. And since 0402-inch is 1005-mm, it is a never ending circle of conversion confusions.

We are using millimeters on the machines, but we still say 0603, 0805 and such...1608 and 2012 (and others) haven't caught on "yet" (and it has been nearly 10 years).

1005 breaks down like this in mm. the "10" equals 1.0 mm, the "05" equals 0.5mm so, 1005. in inch conversion 1.0mm = .04", 0.5mm = .02" so 0402 (.04" x.02" = 1.0 x 0.5). Hope this helped.

Russ u have mentioned that 0201 (inch) is called an 0603 (mm). How & Why? Can u prove it by calculation why these are equivalent sizes?

This is why is said it should be called an 0503 in mm. The 0603 in mm does not make sense and confuses the issue.

Your math is right, but you are converting the wrong direction.

I belive: 0201s use millimeters for specification sizes, not inches. And 01005 use millimeters for specification sizes, not inches. And it may be like that for all passives, but I am not versed in any industries standards that out right declare it. For example, some old JEDEC Standards for ICs dictate inches, but newer ones for ICs, BGA and such clearly state only millimeters in the specifications (and don't even offer inch equivalents).

0603 (metric) is 0.6 X 0.3 millimeters and that converts to 0.024 x 0.012 inches, hence 0201 (inches). This is correct.

Do not start out with 0201 (inches) and convert into millimeters. 0.02 X 0.01 (inches) = 0.508 X 0.254 (rounded to 0503. And that is not correct.

So, no they shouldn't be called 0503 (metric).

When our PnP measures these parts, they are in the range of 0.60 X 0.30 millimeters.

If you are looking for a chart of component conversions, you can go to Topline Components's website. Topline is a vendor for dummy test parts.

Click on the chips, and then select the type of chips (resistor, cap, etc) and then you can download PDF files that have nice printable charts and drawings for the parts and pads.

It should be very helpful.
