Siemens SP-120 w/o line computer?

#33833

Siemens SP-120 w/o line computer? | 21 April, 2005

I have a Siemens SP-120 and an HS-180 available. Can the SP-120 be used without a line computer installed?

Possibly using the HS-180 computer?

We are looking to use the machine for short production runs and prototying.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Unfortunately the answer is no. These machines could not be run without line computer because the station computer does not have a program control software, it has the hardware station control only. Computers for SP-120 and HS -180 are the same but have different software installed

Sorry, I haven't checked the forum for quite some time. HS and SP require a line computer. The computer in the machine is the same computer than the line computer out of the HP 300 serie. HP discontinued manufacturing these computers in 1996. The 332 computer had a seperate floppy drive and you can boot the machine software from the floppy drive. Once the software is booted, you could remove the floppy drive and boot another machine. The line computer software requires a harddrive. The 362 computer has an integrated harddrive of 60 Mb. All these HP computer use a SCSI bus, otherwise the harddrive may be compatible with any other SCSI drive. Formatting a harddrive of 60 Mb (yes, these are Mega not Giga) takes an hour. I've never attempted to format any larger harddrive. More questions: http://www.steering-inc.com
