BGA placement using MCS-16 & IP-3 | 21 June, 2005

Hello all! I'm looking for examples of part data for BGAs created in the MCS-16 environment (V3.20). I've heard using vision number 1, and vision type 10 works, but comes up with a transmission error. As these vision numbers are for chip components, does it have anything to with entering tray information?

An example or working part data would at least give me a base line to work off.

Vision #1 only looks at the outline of the part. Only enter this info. Do not enter any info on the balls.

Vision #1 won't care if it's coming from a tray.

Triple check data entered. Check max and min nozzle size values. Most likey a typo in the PD some place. It may be quicker to start all over instead of trying to find the problem.

Thanks for the info. Is vision number required for the IP3? From the manual it appears not (needed for IP1 & 2), however vision type is required.

We are using IP3 & placing BGA. BGA part data only for outer boundry. No part data for ball. So far result is good. ajay

If you are only concerned with the outline and it has 4 corners, VT-10 or 254 will work with backlighting. If the FIP3 machine has a 4400 card installed, frontlighting with high I/O counts could take a while during vision processing. If your machine is equiped with a 4800 card, I would suggest looking at the bumps for vision processing (VT-230). Depending on the size of the BGA, the VT may change. Examples of BGA's can be found in the SMD3 Manual and one other manual labeled "BGA's and Connectors". These are available in PDF form. Contact Fuji for these manuals or .pdf files.
