We use a meter from Gates. Works good. http://www.gates.com go there and find a distributor.

Dave,

I think I worded my post poorly. I am not sure if "tuning fork type" is the correct terminology.

The instrument I am looking for usually has a hand held unit connected to a device that resembles a small tuning fork. As a matter of fact, I think you actually use a tuning fork to calibrate it.

You put your belt in between the forks and strum it.The hand held unit then gives you a measurement in HZ. ( When I say belt I am referring to axis driving belts. V belts and such)

All of my technical manuals for Fuji and Mydata call for this device.

The link that was posted to earlier has a bunch more bells and whistles than what I need.

I need a unit that just measures tension in HZ.

I haven't heard of a meter like that. Consult Fuji for a recommended supplier if it is so special.

The meter from Gates has a very sensitive microphone, so you tap (or strum) the belt and the vibration is heard and converted to Hz. If you want to strum it with a tuning fork I am sure you will get the same vibration from simply taping the belt with an allen wrench. You measure the belt, not the fork. The vibration is based on the tension of the belt, not how hard you hit the belt.
