Which is the risk in soldering lead bearing components in a lead-free board with a lead-free paste? Is the reliability of the PWA seriously endangered or not?

I have many lead-bearing components in my inventory and I don't know if I will be able to use them by the end of June 2006. Due to high cost I'm not willing to throw them away.

Regards, Olas

First, no one knows very much about the relaibility of Pb-free assemblies, much less Pb-free solder with Pb-bearing components.

Second, we do know that Pb-free components work with PB-bearing solder.

Third, based on comparison laboratory testing, it appears that solding Pb-bearing components with Pb-free solder is less reliable than non-Pb-Bearing component. We've talked about this previously. Search the fine SMTnet Archives.

Are You planning to produce a RoHS compliant product? If You just are going to reflow non RoHS compliant components with a "RoHS oven profile"; make sure that the comps. can withstand the higher solder temperature. As we see it; it is a big reliability/functin/lifetime issue. Sincerly,
