Hello Will the user's of the QSA machines let me know how well these machines pick and place the 0201 component's? Is the feeders good , bad or so so. And isn't there a company that is maufacturing, knock off feeders? Is the spare parts still available? Thanks ahead of time for any help. Harry

Tom Nisbit at PPM can answer anything regarding these machines.

we had a special nozzle made and used the new quad 0402 feeder and the machine didnt miss a part.....but its probably best only to use 1 head to pick the parts because of the z being not 'perfect' between heads and thats where you would have problems. Also its VERY difficult to get the boards level in the transport and its importent to have ....many many many....standoffs under the board to support it.

good luck

Could you help to tell what is the way to pick/place 0402/0201 using QSA30?

Also do you know that without a VME bus Control B/D (illumination card for fixed camera), the new version software (ver.6.0 and above) will not initialize the vision system. Do you know how to make it work?

Thank you very much.

If you are referring to having the control knob on the head for the lighting or controlling it through the software... then...version 6.0 works for both. Make sure you go into scp.ini and turn on\off light control.

For 0402 parts......you must have a known good 'repeatable' feeder and check on 2mm pitch for the part in the part library. Also you must have good z-rods and the z-height to the feeder must be taught perfect or you will bounce out parts.

Thank you for the info. I changed the "Light Cntl = 2" into "=1", the system tells "Vision not Init" but the machine works. If change to "= 0" then system tells more problem, and does not work. Do you have better idea about it?

For feeder for 0402, did you try the Slim-Feeder from Tyco which is supposed for 0402 with 2 mm advance?

In the scp.ini file you either check light control on or off.....i am not sure where you are putting numbers in at. You can use a slim feeder if it will fit onto your feederbase and if you do....you wont need the 2mm option turned on.

What version of software are you using????

I am using ver 6.50 software. Do you know Quad Align compared to Cyber or Samsung's own, which is better? Do you know if the QSA30V support non-symatrical Micro-BGA such as DDR2 DRAM IC?

Quad Align.....Cyber-optics....no difference...they both work well. Never tried a micro-bga but i know the upward camera does standard bga parts.

I tried to use the Fixed Camera to inspect TSOP, however, I got either "UPPER SIDE END PIN ERROR", or "Missing Group:1". I have never had a parts getting recognized. I adjusted all parameter possible: Light, size, width, length. By using Dispaly Part Outline, they match prety well. But just cannot pass.

Is this machine's vision not working so well? I have never heard anybody using fixed camera.

It sounds like the camera needs calibrated and its not something that can be explained that easily. It will not pass if its not calibrated correctly. We use the fixed camera for many different types of fine pitch and dont 'usually' have many problems.

I did calibration for the fixed camera according to the Training Center System's book. But it seemed it is for diciding the heads'offset, very few is for camera itself. When calibrate, It does recognize the calibration tool ad finish. However when test real parts with pins, it is not able to. Messages shows like "1st group error", "Pin error". All Light rings work fine. Could you give me more hint?

Calibrating the fixed camera (this is the camera that is mounted in the feeder base), I dont recall there being a procedure for calibrating it. You need a special nozzle and a plate that sits on top of the camera and you calibrate it in the system setup. There is a sequence of things that need done or it will not calibrate. I have no procedure written up on doing it and i dont even know if you have the tools to calibrate it. See if you can find the special round nozzle and the square 4" plate and then maybe i can try to help you calibrate it.

I do have all tools for calibrate. The 4" plate is looked like for down-look camera. The big nozzle is for up-look camera. I did all the procedure in the handbook from Traning Center System from Quad. The up-look camera does see the nozzle, and passed all. However, it cannot recognize real parts.

Thank you.

At this point.....being my traveling days are done.....i would say call dynatech so they can train you on how to use the upward camera.
