Good day,

What type of solvent are you using for stencil cleaning during production? Does anybody use VIGON SC202 for stencil cleaning? What type of solvent can you recommend? Thank you.

Vigon products are good. What does the supplier of the material [eg: paste, glue, whatever] that you're trying to clean from your stencil say that you should use?

Besides IPA, here is a list of links to cleaning agent suppliers besides Zestron, Vigon is a very good cleaning agent:

If you give them your material mfr. and part number, they can tell you which product in their inventory will do the job.

No. Aqueous Technologies, Kyzen, Petroferm, Zestron, Alpha Metals and many more companies have tested their chemical for use with many different production materials and should be able to discuss the effectiveness of their chemical. Beyond that, many run laboratories where you can observe your material being cleaned with their chemical.

Solvent for stencil cleaning | 9 November, 2005

I was using a combination of Alcohol and then compressed air for a while because I didn't wanted to add new hazardous chemicals into my factory but after looking into Vigon SC200 with a H/F/R of 0 I decided to try it.

Since I started to use it, my cleaning time dropped from 5 minutes to 2 minutes. So this is a win win situation for me.

At first the cleaning was not very good because the operator was applying it to the stencil and he was wiping it off instantly, we found out that just by spraying the Vigon over the stencil leaving it there for 1 to 2 minutes then wipe it off give awesome results.

By the way I am using it with NO-CLEAN solder paste from AIM.

AJ: Problems with IPA are: * IPA / material being 'cleaned' combination still needs to be removed from the stencil. * IPA and empty containers are a hazardous material by RCRA criteria (40CFR 261) * Flash point (~12*C TCC) of IPA is low enough that all electrical equipment within a couple yards of the bath must be flameproofed or intrinsically safe to prevent a fire. * IPA's harmful to people, requiring personal protective equipment including: skin protection [chemical resistant glove, not some pourous butt examination gloves], eye & face protection, and respiratory protection. * IPA's a volatile organic compound (VOC) that forms ozone when mixed with Nox, primarily from automobile exhaust, on warm, sunny days.

Wow! that's amazing!, so you spray both sides, you wait for 2 minutes, and then you wipe everyting clean, and you do all this in 2 minutes, fantastic!
