Reflow time | 16 December, 2005

Hi,,

My doubt is regarding to the Reflow Time, I mean, in a 5 or 7 zones oves, how long the board should stay inside the oven to complete the soldering cycle? 4 min, more, less...Should I keep low temp until peak for a long time or high temp in short time (i run the SMQ92J solder paste)..

Over all time will be dictated by your conveyor speed. Your conveyor speed will be dictated by your products time above liquidous. Time above liquidous is dictated by the manufacturers specification. Time and temp before reflow will have to be achieved by heater temp and air flow (If your oven has that option). Again your spec sheet should have this to. I believe SMQ92J calls for a straight ramp to reflow, versus the old ramp soak, spike profile (did I just give away my age?).

The data sheet for the paste will tell you how long it is supposed to be in the oven. Number of zones is not really relevent.
