We have had an MPM SPM for 5 years that we bought used. It works like a champ, we do down to 19mil pitch with it.

We are using our SPM to .012" pitch with excellent results. It has the manual vision. (two cameras with user defined outlines used with mylar alignment)

EDIT - I meant 16mil pitch, not 12!

No....MPM is just as good. But those two are the best.

I would also add that I think MPM has a far superior semi-auto printer (SPM) to DEK.

Do you have any suggestions on what MPM to look at?

Thanks!

Good morning Manyhats,

I have 2 years working experience with automatic DEK screen printers. DEK products are really very good and are able to produce repeatable high quality print. For example I never saw problems with paste deposition for finepitch (0.5mm) components. Im sure, that semi-auto DEK machines can do the same.

The model to look at from MPM has been mentioned three times already in the previous posts.

What about MPM Up2500 vs. MPM SPM?

I would use an SPM if it was my choice(for a semi-auto). You should be able to get a used one with vision for less than 10 grand. I would not use one without vision for fine pitch, although you probably could get away with it. The first few they made do not have a table lock, dont buy one of those. They suck, thats why they added the table lock. I have heard that the ones with auto board alignment have problems with the stepper motors. That was a ridiculously expensive option and I have not seen many of them.

Of course if you have 40K or so, buy a used UP3000 or a DEK full auto machine.

Hi David,

I've only ever worked with MPM, but my experience with them has been excellent. I've recently started with a new company, and we have a proto line that uses an SPM. I found the worknest a little frustrating at times, but the set up is fairly quick, and the printing has excellent repeatability. We've been using it for boards with fine pitch and BGA, and haven't had any problems. This one does not have board handling, so walking the boards is somewhat annoying. Generally, it's a pretty solid machine. If you do get one, and have any issues with it, let me know. We spent a fair bit of time setting up and working the bugs out of ours.

cheers
