Fuji CP4&CP6 Placement issues | 29 January, 2006

Hello all,

I work with a company which runs a fairly small SMT department. For now, we have a "main" line consisting of a Fuji CP6-45, and a Fuji IP3, and a proto line which uses a Fuji CP4. We also use Fuji Flexa programming software. The issues we are having are as follows. If we use the main line for a product, the placing accuracy for parts is excellent. Also, if we run a product on the proto line, the CP4 placement is excellent. The issue is when we try to split the parts for one product onto both the CP4 and the CP6. To decrease cycle times, we've tried using both of the fuji machines, but the CP4 placement is always off. To be specific, its about .3mm off in the -X direction. Yet, when a program is transmitted and only the CP4 is used, placement is quite good. I've never encountered this issue before, and I'm really hoping someone out there would know why this is happening.

Hi Dax you want to run a cal card with good cad data on all machines then take the results and then alter the placement xy data to pull all machines into calibration. But make sure all the cameras are calibrated and the pam results are good and within spec

Export CCIMF files for both scenario's and have Fuji America look to see if there is an actual programming offset problem. To be exactly .3mm off seems a little odd.

Thanks for the reply fellas,

I spent all day today working on these machines, and indeed, this is bizzare. The main line was in production, and the placement was excellent on the CP6. I transferred a reel (400 parts per board) to the CP4 and the placement was terrible. The parts seemed to be centered alright in the middle of the board, and got progressively worse to the edges. Transfered back to the CP6 and it was fine. This is using the same fiducial and part coordinates. I also tried a Fuji test board and divied the parts to both the CP4 and CP6, and it was great. This is the only program, and board, that has any consistency between machines. I truly dont get it.

Send the CCIMF files to Fuji America to review. Need to make sure that the MainMark and SubMark are the same for each machine output program/ref.des.

i would agree with taking a closer look at the fiducials. I have the same line config. here but have to say that I have never experienced any conflict between machines.

One thing I have seen before is when we ran a particular product on the machine every now and then the placement would be off , not neccesarily on all the components. Turned out that the fiducial locations were altered individually overtime to correct certain issues.

If you have gerber or the original fiducial data check the data you have in the current program. Make sure the distance between both fiducials corresponds also.

Let us know how you get on ..

Band Aide Quick Fix to get you running - Change x-value for all global fiducials in your program the exact same amount as the x-offset you are experiencing on your bad machine. Likely, if (0,0) is front-left, you should move all global fids 0.3mm the same direction as the offset you are seeing. Might have to make the search box for fiducials larger when you do this. As stated by others, sounds like a calibration thing.

hello guys....... it seems to our team that your problem most likely originated to the board origin. seems to us that the two machines have diffrent settings. as what you've said, offsets on placements only happened when transmitting a program at both machines.... they might have different board origins. try to look at that thing....

Great idea... thanks... I've just looked at our CP4 today, and can't for the life of me figure out how to set the board origin. I can't find any mention of it in our maintenance or operator manuals. Anyone out there know how to do this?

check placement XO/YO and mark read position using fuji board.
