Humidity in SMT room | 16 February, 2006

We have just purchased a humidity logger and I need to know what the relitive humidity should be in a SMT production area. The Room is enclosed approx. 60ft by 30ft using ESD Floor tile. 3 machines are in the room as well as some Thru hole machines.

I depends on your components, your ESD program, and the max rating your equipment can deal with.

Hmm... how about the people inside this room; working in this dry environment? This is something never discussed highly, but I believe it is most certainly important for the human health. This is another interesting thing about RoHS; the side effects... Don't misunderstand me, but after the RoHs directive we are now facing harder MSL:s. /

Where in the world are you? Is it naturally that dry and you'e trying to keep it up, or do you dry it to that state?

'round here 40-45 is the norm so we don't put much thought into controlling it.
