I am looking to manufacture a 'custom' SMT carrier from a material which I believe is called Durastone, does anyone know where I can purchase a piece of this raw material, or indeed any other material which may solve this problem.

'Durostone' is available in the UK in 2 forms. Conductive and non-conductive. The conductive version is known as type CAS761.

We use:

You can either buy the material and have the carriers made yourself or ship the design details (or a sample assembly) to them and they will make them for you. Note: there are some special Health and Safety considerations when machining this type of material.

Try a search engine and look up "+solder+pallet". Any of the major pallet manufacturers can supply this or any other composite materials that you may be looking for. Of course (as I am employed by EMC) I would prefer you choose my site. Try to keep in mind the unrealized internal costs when designing, machining and assembling your pallets. A lot of companies are out there that do it well, here and there, but there are only a few of us that are consistent.
