With all of the possibilities and combinations of alloys availabe, what in your opinion will the industry change to so that lead is removed from the process?

There are certainly many pb-free options being considered by the industry. Currently, the most promising alloys appear to be various combinations of SnAgCu. SnAgBi could also be an option, but to use this alloy, there must be no Pb in the surface finish of the board and on the component leads. A ternary SnPbBi alloy can be formed that melts at 96C.

For the wave soldering process, eutectic SnCu shows the most promise when both cost and performance are considered.
