BGA-2000 Micro Oven | 19 January, 2000

I would like to hear any feedback (good or bad) about the OK Industries BGA-2000 Series BGA and Fine Pitch Rework System. I was not part of the selection process for this machine and my initial opinion is that this unit may be "under-powered". Looking forward to any comments.

Regards, Rob

Re: BGA-2000 Micro Oven | 20 January, 2000

I tested out the OK unit and found it to be a "down and dirty" rework machine that will do BGAs if demeanding thermal requirements are not needed. My largest concern was the lack of bottom side preheat. I have recently purchased the Air-Vac DRS24 and have no problems anymore. The OK unit is just that "OK". It is much faster than the Air-Vac but does not perform as well or as repeatable. The Air-Vac has thermocouple control and a very large bottom side pre-heater. These things provide a very repeatable process regardless of starting temps etc... by the way I do not work for Air-Vac if this sounds like a sales pitch

Re: BGA-2000 Micro Oven | 20 January, 2000

Rob,

I am currently using a BGA-3000 from OK, which works fairly well. I did find that the customer support for the purchase of nozzles and stencils was very poor (overpriced and long lead times). I did find stencils for a good price through Mini Micro Stencil in California. Although I don't currently own one, I really wish I had spent the extra bucks on the Air-Vac. Good luck!

One of the best rework systems on the market is the Sniper from APE Corporation. One thing you'll never here is that the system dosn't have enough power. Check it out. www.apecorp.com

Where did you find a BGA 2000???? This machine is not saled anymore. The new one is the 3592 and include a large underboard heater which shouldn't be "under-powered" but this depend of the kind of board you are repairing. If you really want a large under board heater, have a look to a Freedom 2000 from Conceptronic (the cost is not the same also).

Casey,

I agree the Sniper is a fine machine! I'm doing uBGA's with a Sniper system and it is working great. Great uniform chip collapse! Plenty of power....That's why we bought the machine....Also, very easy for the production people to use.

The BGA-2000 is an old system thats correct ! I am a BGA-3500 user (the newest version)with windows software and a large underboard heather, i am verry happy with the system after using an APE wich was verry bad for my aplication. There is a posibility to build a large underboard heather in your system, that will help you solve all your problems !! Rene
