NEPCON West vs APEX Show | 21 July, 1999

I am curious as to what everyone is thinking about having both the Nepcon and Apex showsn next spring? Will people be attending Nepco, Apex, both or are we seeing the industry tradeshows saturating us? We are trying to evaluate these as an exhibitor. Like to hear opinions anyone might have.

Hi Blankenhorn,

Good topic. You know I have mixed feelings about this Apex vs. Nepcon show. For one, greedy NEPCON was charging ridiculous prices per sq. ft. of space at the show. I really believe it was to a point where it was just plain and simply ridiculously priced. I think it is a good thing that APEX will be holding their own show. As you know competition drives prices down. Maybe now that NEPCON dropped their prices some of the smaller suppliers and equipment manufacturers can now afford a space at either one of the shows. Personally when I go to NEPCON I really dont care much about the big fancy booths. I already know what the big boys have. I want to see the smaller innovative and unique products and equipment that will one day be standard for the industry. As far as general attendance, I think that NEPCON will still capture most of the national attention due to people being unsure about the APEX show. Myself being a local plan go to attend both shows. But if APEX does well, I will be a regular. In general I believe this is a good thing for the electronic industry. We will see what happens.

Trade Shows! We do seem to have too many of them and the over-all attendence seems to be down. At least the number of quality leads coming out of the shows.

As for Nepcon. We just finished doing the Nepcon East show and it was really a poor show for equipment people. Very low turnout and the lead count was way down.

Nepcon West and Apex will be a situation where people from the East will have to decide which show to attend and for my money it will be Apex this year. If you are looking to see equipment I feel it will be the place to go.

my two cents

As Deon says, I know what the big boys have and if I want to see it there are better ways than on a show floor. I like to browse the smaller guys while looking for ideas.

Competition has finally penetrated the trade show industry which will benefit us all by reducing costs. No hard feelings for Reed, they have certainly set a standard that other shows have to match just to survive. Smaller companies such as ours seem to be going to both while the big guys have the weight to pick one or another. It will be interesting to say the least...
