This recently-revised (2018) SMT Rework course is for those companies desiring for their best soldering techs to both take off and put back on SMT components. This class is based on the recently-updated IPC standards including the IPC-J-STD-001, the IPC-A-610 and the IPC-7711.

The SMT rework class is centered on learning the hands skills of SMT rework, though with a small lecture-based portion of the class. Each of the students will be taught through a “repetitive series of tasks in which the instructor first demonstrates the skill to the student. This is followed by each of the SMT rework class students repeating what they saw until the instructor can verify over multiple removals and replacement that the student has successfully mastered the skill taught. A PCB is used in the class that is reasonably resembles boards your technicians will be working on back at the shop.

The SMT rework class also includes a lecture portion. This class will discuss the variety of different materials one can use during the reworking of PCBs. There will also be a review of the various package types, alloys, fluxes and solders. Additionally, the SMT rework course will discuss a variety of different hand soldering, site preparation and reflow methods.
