The Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering at the University of Maryland and the Department of Materials at Loughborough University are pleased to announce the Sixth International Symposium on Tin Whiskers to be held on November 27-28, 2012, at Loughborough University, UK. The day-and-a-half symposium includes presentations covering case histories, theories of tin whisker growth, experiments and results, risk evaluation methods, and risk mitigation strategies.

In addition to the symposium, a half-day short course will be offered on the afternoon of November 28, 2012. The short course, "Tin Whisker Failure Risk and Mitigations," will be led by Dr. Michael Osterman. The course will provide a comprehensive overview of the tin whisker phenomenon and the current strategies that are being used to mitigate the failure risk posed by tin whiskers in electronic equipment.
