We utilize socket receptacles, typical part number is 147444-1 from TE. These come to us loose and they have to be inserted to the PCB by hand. Does anyone know of a way to get these receptacles into the pick-n-place machine to automatically place them into the boards?

We have, in the past, made our own trays for loose parts and put them in the tray tower. Of course someone has to put the parts into the tray so you may not be saving any labor but the machine placement should be faster.

You could use a bowl and track vib feeder to present them, but picking them up and pushing them far enough into the PCB is going to be tricky as they look almost flush mount.

Also you need to consider the reliability of the post plated hole diameter and if your machine can push hard enough to set the holder in the board, and if you can support the PCB well enough for this.

If you do enough of them it is possible, depending on your SMT platform - what machines are you using?

We are running a MyCronic My100. We are also concerned about hole accuracy. So far little steps at a time.
