is there a posibilities that a lead solder sticked on the pot can be absorbed by a potato when you placed it on the solder pot. to be able to use the pot for leadfree solder.

A potato is: * 80 percent water * 20 percent solids

Temperature: * Water boils at ~100*C * Your solder pot ~240*C

If you want to try this experiment, talk someone else into doing it while you're on break.

Slightly related story....my dad (vision not so good) put a gallon of WATER in with 4 gallons of cooking oil to deep fry a turkey. Of course the water was on the bottom and when it started boiling, whoooheeee!

Additional to Dave F.... A potato has Iron @ 2.75mg and Magnesium @ 55mg. The leaching of these two meatls could contaminate the solder pot and taint the solder. ----------------------- Additional to my additional..THE SOLDER POT POTATO BATTERY...A potato can act like a battery....The potato itself has a mixture of starches and salts. A salt in water releases ions. Ions are atoms that have an electrical charge. To make a solder pot battery with a potato, you need to put two different metals into the potato...the metals can be zinc and tin, or copper and lead, or other choices. The point is - the two metals have to be different metals. When a metal reacts with a positively charged ion, like the positively charged sodium ion in the salt in a potato - the metal gets a bit of a positive charge, 1.2volts in some cases.

Positive electrical charges and negative electrical charges attract each other. The positive charge in the metal will attract negatively charged electrons...the potato battery is ready to conduct electricity. ------------------------ www.mrpotatolead.com -----------------------

Ahhh, the seminar. Almost as bad as "seeing it on TV". Keep your shoes shiny and wear nice cloths. You'll make it in American manufacturing - if you have buzzwords up to snuff.
