Philips Emerald & Emerald-X is specified at max 54mm device. However I have placed 58mm devices. These machines have published accuracies at 0.02mm. Have seen as low as 0.007mm.

Sorry, scale division on that would be 0.05mm not 0.02mm. Magnification x24 or thereabouts. Also great for measuring all sort of things on pcbs, stencils etc to see if they come within spec.

A gap of 150-200 between potential shadow components is enough to eliminate those problems. Dave, Can you clarify? Do you mean 0.015 to 0.02?? Peter

The biggest problem is getting paste on the board. We ran a board that had 8 per and would get an occasional insufficient solder joint. I would look into doing the boards with something like a SiPad process (www.sipad.net) My $0.02

not to be anoying....but a topaz can be configured with a 54mm camera an when using the 20 micron head 1 spline. It will place accuratly to +/-0.02mm Imagine 1 machine that works from 0402 to 54mm square! Now that's flexible.

Hi AJ, I have never used the Pulsar, but have seen it. I worry about it clogging all the time. Also being "hand held" over a hot pot wories me too. Look for something automated. My $0.02 and only an opinion.

Are you talking 0.02" (1.225mm) if so then no it's not a great idea. if you must wave it can you go to a PLCC and through hole socket it on the other side of the board?

Grant, Why don't you try a water-base flux which is No-clean, VOC-free also? I have tried the 270WR flux from AIM with good results even on lead-free process. My $0.02, George
