Leadfree Dross in Wave Solderpot

Electronics Forum | Tue Mar 01 22:20:59 EST 2005 | davef

Marc: You say, "Copper will sink to the bottom of a pot since it is lighter ..." Why does it sink if it's lighter? What is copper lighter than?

All: All you using a nitrogen atmospheres with your lead-free waves? If not, why not, as I would think this might have benefits vis a vis reducing dross.

It has benefits for solderability too, but costs rather a lot of money to convert your machine & you have to buy in nitrogen on a regular basis (unless you have a generator).

Hi all the cost of the nitrogen is lower than the cost of lead free dross, don't forget than the lead free alloy is very expensive. == maintenance be carefull with tools, with a lead bath a key can fall and float, with a lead free bath the key will s

What is your micro BGA requiremnets? I mean ball dia / height with a 0.5 mm pitch? I can give you the stencil design, if you make known the parameters.

What thickness is required to process a double sided board with white tin? Is there an IPC standard? If rework is necessary, what is required?

Touch-up and Inspection Process

Electronics Forum | Tue Mar 01 10:43:59 EST 2005 | Rob

Hi Greg, Is anyone logging the errors at QC/touch up stage so they can feed them straight back to SMT and fix them? (i.e. skipped components, poor paste coverage etc) Obviously the faster you spot an error the cheaper it will be for you. Cheers,

Top 5 of No-clean Solder Paste

Electronics Forum | Tue Mar 01 16:20:41 EST 2005 | lyrtech

Hi, Actually, we want to run a benchtest for solder paste to verify if the paste we use is one of the best. So, with your experiments and tests, what's the top 5 for No-clean solder paste? * I mean leaded solder paste ( for the moment) :)

Russ, are you using any reduction on your stencil aperatures? How much for what type of parts? We seem to have to many problems with resistor network aperatures clogging. How well does this paste release from small aperatures?
