Conformal over No-Clean

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 26 09:32:22 EDT 2002 | blnorman

We conformally coat over NC solder paste. No problems. We're using a platinum catalyzed addition cure silicone. The only concern with this conformal coating is cure inhibition. You must test the coating over the residues to be sure there is no in

Could be. Bottom line is my frustration is high with ENIG. It has it's merits, but if it's not done right, it'll bite you in the butt. Too many other choices to keep this frustration around. I have never used OSP. I'm requesting 200 boards from my b

CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines)

Electronics Forum | Tue May 07 09:36:38 EDT 2002 | jax

Daniel, If you just plan on mounting chip components don't worry about getting an accurate measurement. The parts will vary in size, corrupting your accuracy measurements. If you are going to place leaded components you can probably get awa

First of all are you looking for a inline or a table top unit. We paid 50k for a Testronics unit and it does ok but I feel like others and that is if you have the inspection & controls in place you should be able to build quality boards by controlli

Two hours at 125 C will do nothing. IPC's new spec is 48 hours at 125C, the old spec I use to use for years was 24 hours at 125C. I do not have all the spec in front of me but if you reduce the temp to around 60C it can take up to 48 days. We use to

Micro Leadless Frame - solder wetting control

Electronics Forum | Thu May 09 11:59:34 EDT 2002 | russ

One thing I have done in the past although it may not be feasable in your case, is to process through normal reflow and then saturate parts with a high solids water soluble flux and re-reflow with hot air, iron, or even another pass through the oven.

I'd be a more than a little cautious about doing this. Had a somewhat different application once and found out that as the solution was cleaning/etching the surface, it also leached (thru the lead frame) into the body of the part. What we thought w

Inventory control of SMT parts

Electronics Forum | Thu May 09 10:11:23 EDT 2002 | dougt

I see some of the pick and place manufactures talking about how their machines (software) can help you control your inventory and keep track of where your SMT devices are. Is this really being achieved? Are the machines talking to the stock room /

So after barcoding takes place, is this info sent to the feeder or the outside world (is the feeder just a number that the pick and place machine looks for or does the feeder tell the machine what it has)? I guess if every machine and remote feeder f
